No, a credit card is not essential. As long as you have a debit card or bank card issued by Visa or MasterCard credit card that can manage online payments, card machine payments and pre-authorisation requests (for the excess deposit) internationally.

You can book online using this website or you can email us. We will need to know your preferred travel dates and where you are travelling in Southern Africa so we can confirm availability. We will respond to your request as soon as possible.

No, we do not offer a hotel and airport transfer service. We are however happy to meet you at the OR Tambo International Airport with the vehicle. We are also happy to deliver the vehicle to your hotel in the greater Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban areas if you are spending the night in one of the major cities.

Our minimum rental age is 23 years of age.

The minimum rental period is 3 consecutive days.

Our vehicles are permitted to travel in South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique (some areas restricted), Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. When travelling to more remote locations it is important you share your travel plans with us so we can offer you advice and assistance with your travels. The Suzuki Jimny is a highly capable 4×4, but it is important you understand its limitations as it is a compact 4×4. Some of the far-out regions may not be accessible.

Yes, our equipped rental option does include sleeping bags, bed sheets and pillows. For a full list of the equipment included you can view our vehicle equipment list here.

Our vehicles are comprehensively covered by GUARDRISK (POLICY REFERENCE: TREAD002/0001). This includes full cover on the vehicle as well as third party insurance. The excess on the vehicle is ZAR 10,000.00 which is held as a pre-authorization on collection of the vehicle, so please ensure that your credit, debit or bank card has enough funds to allow for this. Should anything happen to the vehicle the damage will be assessed, and costs deducted off the deposit.

If we receive a traffic fine, we will send you a copy of the fine (as proof) and kindly request you pay the fine. The payment can be made to Tread Lite 4×4 hire through our online paygate.

The vehicle has a standard jack and wheel spanner as well as the necessary safety equipment (red triangles, vests, etc), it also has a number 10 spanner for basic repairs and a tow rope.

Your booking is confirmed upon receipt of a 35% confirmation payment – payable online through our online paygate.

Collection of the vehicle is arranged upon confirmation of your booking. We can either meet you at the airport or arrange a suitable meeting place.

Our 1.5 GLX Jimny’s are available in manual or automatic (no price difference)

The final (50%) payment of your rental is due on pick up of the vehicle. The payment is done on your credit/cheque/debit card using our mobile credit card machine.

Should you cancel your booing you will forfeit the 35% deposit payment. No other charges apply.

Yes, a 35% deposit is required on confirmation of your rental.

All you need is your valid driver’s/international license and a copy of your passport.

Yes, as long as your license is in English. If not, you will need an international driver license which can be purchased at your local licensing department.

Yes, we do not operate within set business hours. As long as we have enough warming prior to your collection/drop off we can plan accordingly to fit with your schedule.

Yes, we are happy to deliver the vehicle to you at the airport or your accommodation as long as the hotel is within the city of collection/drop-off (Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban).

We maintain WhatsApp communication with you throughout your stay in South Africa. If you are running late you can advise us on the WhatsApp number so we can adjust your return time.

Yes, you are welcome to change your reservation. We will gladly assist as long as there is availability to do so.

You are welcome to return the vehicle early. Unfortunately, no refunds will apply

Yes, you are welcome to extend your hire should we have availability to assist.

Yes, we do offer one -way hires. One-way drop-off fees may apply and are quoted on request. The cost will depend on the drop-off location and our vehicle movements. We try our utmost to reduce one-way fees where we can.

Should you have an accident, it is vital you contact our office through the contact number provided as soon as the accident happen. All accidents have to be reported to the nearest police station within 24 hours. It is your responsibility to do so.

We offer a 24-hour roadside assistance in South Africa. Should you have a breakdown, your first point of contact is the Tread Lite contact number so we can manage the process with you.

No, we do not allow smoking in any of our vehicles.
