We Are Travel Ready – COVID-19 Procedure

Review our updated operation policies and vehicle hand over procedures set out to ensure the safety of our guests and staff in our new travel world.

As the COVID-19 lockdowns begin to ease with local travel returning and the prospect of international travel to South Africa on the horizon, we are excited to have our vehicles back on the open road, creating lifetime travel memories for our travellers. Firstly, we must say a big thank you to all our travellers who had to put their travel plans on hold. We are looking forward to welcoming you as soon as you are ready to travel.

With COVID-19 apart of our daily lives, our team has been hard at work making the necessary adjustments to our operations to make sure our guests can travel safely while at the same time ensuring the safety of our staff at all times. We had adopted the Tourism Business Council of South Africa’s COVID-19 industry protocols to ensure we are operating in a safe environment.

Below is an update to our operating procedures specifically relating to vehicle maintenance and our collection/drop off process. We trust these changes will make you feel at ease when hiring one of our 4×4 Jimny Rentals. COOLING-OFF PERIOD

With extra attention being paid to the cleanliness of our vehicles and equipment, we have implemented a minimum two day cooling-off period between any vehicle rental. The additional time ensures we can take the time needed to effectively clean and sterilize the vehicle for COVID-19 inside and out before your rental.

VEHICLE CLEANING

We have always maintained cleanliness in our vehicles with thorough washing before each rental. We have however changed our car washing protocol by partnering with our local vehicle washing service. Their thorough washing and sterilizing service ensure our vehicles are effectively disinfected before each rental.

MANAGING EQUIPMENT

The latest WHO recommendations state the COVID-19 virus cannot survive on a surface for longer than 72 hours. With this in mind, we have increased the amount of camping gear in our offices to ensure a cooling-off period of at least 72 hours for any equipment used by our travellers.

Bed Linen: On completion of any rental, all bed linen and sleeping bags are cleaned in an electric washing machine with the correct disinfectants/cleaning agents. Once cleaned, the bedding is folded into plastic covers and allowed to stand for the 72-hour period before the next rental.

Cooking Equipment: On completion of any rental, all cooking equipment is washed in a dishwasher at adequate temperatures with the correct washing detergents. Once washed, all the equipment is stored in the cleaned ammo box and allowed to stand for the 72-hour resting period.

Camping Gear: All the camping equipment (tent, chairs, table, etc) is set up, inspected and cleaned at the end of every rental. Once dry, it is packaged away and stored for the minimum 72 hour resting period as with the rest of the equipment.

COLLECTION & DROP-OFF

The collection and drop-off periods are the only time you will be in direct contact with our staff. We have carefully reviewed our collection and drop-off process to ensure we maintain social distancing without losing the personal approach to our vehicle rentals. Below are the most notable changes.

Documentation: All documentation for your rental is printed 3 days before your arrival (unless you have booked within 3 days) and stored in a sleeve where they will remain before your rental. On arrival, you will handle/sign the forms. Where possible a paperless process will be implemented with forms being signed on a mobile device.

Pick Up & Drop-off Locations: Tread Lite does not have set pick up or drop off office location. All our vehicle deliveries are either done at the airport (Johannesburg, Durban & Cape Town), or at the accommodation establishment where you are staying. Our preference is to deliver the vehicle to the property where you are staying as it allows for a smoother hand over process. We bring the vehicle to you cleaned and ready to go.

Preventative Measures: Our staff will always wear a face mask and gloves when handing over or collecting a vehicle. Masks and gloves will be worn from the moment anytime our staff is in the vehicle (including the drive to the collection location. All guests will be required to wear masks during the collection and drop off process. All contact zones within the vehicle are carefully wiped down with sanitizer before handing the vehicle over. Our staff will also use sanitizer throughout the hand-over process. We recommend you also use adequate sanitizer before and after the hand-over. Temperatures checks will be mandatory before the delivery of any vehicle. We will also maintain social distancing of 1.5m throughout the hand over process.
