South Africa offers some of the best remote camping imaginable. To help you seek out these unique and remote places, check out the SA Campsites website which offers a comprehensive list of camp sites across South Africa as well as our neighbouring countries (Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Namibia & Botswana).

The website is still growing as they add more camping options but we love the already comprehensive information included in each listing. If you want to spend your entire South Africa vacation camping across the countryside, this website is for you.

South African’s love an epic 4×4 adventure and have been trekking across our country for decades. The 4×4 community is an online portal for local adventurers and keen 4×4 enthusiasts. They discuss everything from vehicles to routes and places to stay. If you are looking for some local advice, ask a question on the forum and they will gladly offer up advice on where to stay and what to do.

The Suzuki Jimny has a massive following on the 4×4 community with many passionate zook (as they are known locally) owners sharing detailed travel logs of where they’ve been in their compact 4×4’s.

The Getaway Magazine is arguably one of South Africa’s best local travel magazines. Their travel blog is an excellent travel resource which will help you uncover some of the lesser known destinations while also helping you navigate your way through the must see places in Southern Africa.

What we love about the Getaway Travel Blog is the posts are a combination of featured articles by the Getaway team and local travellers eager to share their personal adventures and travel advice. This ensures you have unbiased reviews and ideas to read through as you plan your adventure.

Travel Ground Booking Portal

Think of it as a local South African version of Booking.com. It is not all instant online booking (depending on how the property’s booking system is setup) but be patient and submit your enquiry to them.

While you are searching through their website for places to stay, head over to their travel blog for ideas on where to go – https://www.travelground.com/blog.
